Happy Thanksgiving!
We had great, big (huge!) plans for Thanksgiving this year, but God had other plans.
When Dan got sick, a week and a half earlier, I thought to myself, “Good! We’ll have this out of the way before our company comes in!”
But he didn’t get better. It dragged on and on. Day 8 of him being sick was the day our first two sets of guests were supposed to arrive, but both decided not to come when we told them how sick he was.
On day 10 of him being sick, our next two sets of guests were supposed to come, FINALLY, Dan was mostly just tired. (And sleeping nearly half the time!!!) These guests did actually come.
And, our final two sets guests did not end up coming either. But our local children made it out, and we had a full table, with thankful hearts all around.
Thanksgiving meal consisted of:
- Turkey
- Stuffing
- Ham
- Mashed Potatoes
- Gravy
- Cranberry Sauce
- Green Bean Casserole
- Lamas Bread
- Rolls
- Orange “Salad”
- Pumpkin Pie
- Apple Pie
- Coconut Cream Pie
- Plum Cake
Everyone brings a little, and we always enjoy a lot of good fellowship and fun for the rest of the day!
This year I used one of my giant voluneer butternut squashes for the pumpkin pie. I used garden potatoes for the mashed potatoes. And, of course, all of the items requiring milk (like the coconut cream pie!) used milk from our goats. It was very satisfying to have produced so much of the the items I brought. 🙂
I ended up sick for 3 days as well, at the beginning of the week, but we were all finally better together by Thanksgiving day.
I did manage to slip out to the garden to harvest another 2 rows of potatoes!
And of course, every day we had to care for our ducks, goats, and rabits. (Dan attempted this even when he was NOT well enough!)
But, the rest of the week was spent visiting with friends and family. 🙂
